In developing mindful awareness we are growing our ability to be more present in our internal landscape. In interpersonal mindfulness we allow the lens to encompass what is happening around us in the context of the larger world.

Close contact with others is our greatest longing but it also brings us into intimate contact with parts of ourselves and history where wounding has occurred. Wounding happens between people and becomes an obstacle to connection with people.

Painful experiences frustrate our desire and ability to connect and be present in our practices as well. In mindful awareness, we learn how to attend to our internal state without losing our connection with others. We learn that the obstacle is actually the opportunity to deepen connection.

In this training, we teach meditation to calm our nervous so that we can be more grounded in our bodies. When we are grounded, we are present. Group and dyad interaction will be used to support deeper listening and speaking. We will use action explorations, such as role play and role reversal in our investigation of obstacles.

This training is designed for therapists or mental health practitioners interested in integrating mindful awareness, meditation, and compassionate presence within the therapeutic setting. However, it is open to anyone who wants to explore interpersonal mindfulness.

At the completion of this training, participants will have learned to:

1. Implement two techniques that help stabilize self and client.

2. Translate mindful awareness from meditation to the relational space.

3. Listen and speak with a greater presence.
